About Us

Why bad films?

Some people don't understand our passion for bad movies, and they can't be blamed. There are hundreds of good movies out there that are more worthy of our time. Then there are thousands of mediocre movies out there that are great for when you want to turn off your brain and watch shit blow up.

But what we really love are the bad ones.

For Courtney, it all stems from her early love for Mystery Science Theater 3000. Here's where she got her first taste of how hilarious horrible movies could be, and how much fun it was to riff on them. She still has a nasty habit of riffing on films a bit--even the good ones--so it's a welcome outlet for that.

For Rich, it stems from parental neglect during summer vacations. They'd leave him $5 and the movie card before they went to work each morning and Rich would head to the video store, rent two releases and watch all morning and afternoon. Rich was nine. He had no idea what constituted a good film and a bad film. He generally rented the bad. And loved every moment.

These are the movies that make you question how they got made in the first place. Or make you wonder how such a shitty film ever got a big name star attached to it. The movies that are so bad they are inadvertently hilarious. Bad acting, nonsensical plots, piss poor special effects, and the occasional in-frame boom mike--we love when films have all the hallmarks of an enjoyably bad movie.

Not all bad films are created equally. There are plenty of movies that are intolerably slow, boring, and that no amount of camp can save. We've suffered through plenty of these, all with the hopes of finding another diamond in the rough. Some movies may only have a single scene worth watching, while others are amusing from start to finish.

Whatever the case, we're hoping to suss out the best of the worst and celebrate them on this here blog.

We'll see you at the (bad) movies!
